This 'en plein air', picture of me was taken on the bridge of the entrance into McGregor, situated in the Breede River valley

His story began in a small settlement called Bridgetown in Athlone, located in the beautiful city of Cape Town, South Africa. His love for visual imagery was always evident since childhood and it shaped a big part of his life.

Ricky started experimenting with oil paints in 2018. His painting practice centres around still life, representations of people, street scenes, houses and interiors.

“My main motivation is to capture the light, along with a sense of space, and movement, creating a moment of interest and tension. Painting should do more than copy reality, paint should have a language of its own that moves the viewer in the same way that music does."

With his semi realistic style and bold brush strokes he captures a moment, a story, and a feeling that is rich with colour and emotion. His technique brings vibrancy, movement and mystery to ordinary places and everyday objects.

In this way of working, he aims to achieve a result that is relevant and reflects the disagreeable and the beauty of the world in which we live.
